A Stamford mother is urging the court to impose the maximum sentence as the man accused of killing her son prepares to appear before a judge.

Maria Saez contacted News 12 Connecticut ahead of the court date for Abraham Talbert, who is charged in the killing of her son, Jaquan Tahir Saez.

Police said the then 21-year-old was found dead at Boccuzzi Park on March 20, 2023, after officers received a report of a body in the park in Stamford.

Authorities said Saez was killed the day before and had been reported missing by his family. Saez’s mother said her son had been in a relationship with Talbert.

Police said Talbert and Saez met at the park and Talbert killed Saez. Talbert was arrested several months later and has remained in custody since his arrest.

Saez said she hopes the judge imposes the maximum sentence allowed. “Just hoping that they see fit that the judge and the system see fit that he receives the maximum sentence,” she said.

Talbert, who pleaded not guilty three years ago, is scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday. He has reportedly been offered a 40-year plea deal. Saez said she is hoping for a 60-year sentence.
