The accusations are flying over a TV ad in the race for the 35th Senate District Wednesday.
Incumbent Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers) has accused his opponent Democrat Andrea Stewart-Cousins of airing a negative television ad sponsored by a group outside her campaign. He says he wants those ad pulled.
The spot is sponsored by a group called New York EdPac. The ad claims Spano takes money from special interest groups, including the pharmaceutical and tobacco industries. Spano says it's a backdoor attempt to attack him without Stewart-Cousins having to put her name on the ad.
Stewart-Cousins countered that the ad doesn't come from her campaign. She also says she has been on the receiving end of attack ads from Spano. She claims Spano is lashing out at her to deflect from the reality of his own affiliations. Both candidates are sprinting for the finish line in a long, grueling campaign.
