The Mullings sisters decided to bring joy to the 2020 graduating class with an exciting twist.
Lesline Mullings, co-creator of the Adopt a Rockland County High School Senior, group says she recalls her senior year being one of the happiest times of her life and feels heartbroken that the 2020 class won’t be able to have a similar experience.
She and her sister, Tasha, launched the group to bring the community together in uplifting the spirits of seniors in such trying times.
The concept works by the administrators highlighting a student with a post and someone then adopting their chosen teen. Once adopted, the graduate will receive gifts and care packages filled with college gear and letters of encouragement.
“I’m really hoping we can help all the seniors in Rockland County," says Tasha Mullings.
Within a few hours, Nanuet High School senior Yaire Rodriguez was adopted.
“There were a lot of things that I was looking forward to since I started high school and now all that's just gone. So, the fact that things like this are happening makes me really happy," says Rodriguez.
News 12 is told there are currently more adopters than adoptees, but the sisters hope that more seniors are honored as they close one chapter of their lives to head onto the next adventure.
