An apartment fire early Wednesday morning left two families in Yonkers homeless and nine firefighters injured.
Fire officials say flames broke out around 1:30 a.m. inside a first-floor apartment of a five-story building at 44 Park Ave.
News 12 has learned that a cigar likely started the blaze.
Many residents had to flee the fire in their pajamas as over 30 firefighters took nearly 40 minutes to get the flames under control.
Nine firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. One person who lived in the building also suffered minor injuries.
All but two families were allowed back into their apartments. The Red Cross is helping the victims.
