Residents at a Mount Vernon building say two of their elevators have been out of service since last week.

According to a letter sent out by the management company for the Randy A. Daniels Towers at Grace Plaza, the two elevators have been out of commission since Friday due to severe water damage.

As of 8 p.m. on Monday, one elevator has been restored.

Norman Hyre, a resident on the sixth floor, says he has a broken foot and had to climb up and down each flight if he wanted to enter or exit the building.

Residents say it's not the first time the elevators have been out of commission.

"Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we had no elevators. There's people in this building that are stuck in their homes because they use the walkers, they use the powerchairs," said one resident who asked to remain anonymous.

In a letter from the building's management company sent out on July 25, the building's management said, "we are all working very hard to get the elevators back in service."

When News 12 asked when the elevators would be fixed, a representative with the management company responded that they, "could not give us an answer at the present time."

An elevator company worker was seen at the building on Monday.

A resident has confirmed that as of 8 p.m. Monday, one elevator was restored.
