Real estate agents are now allowed to show homes in person with phase 2 of reopening of the Mid-Hudson region, and potential homebuyers are already lining up.
Realtors tell News 12 that they are seeing a big wave of people leaving New York City and moving to the Hudson Valley, in part due to the coronavirus. They say people have learned during the COVID-19 pandemic how living in densely populated areas like Manhattan can be a problem as compared to areas that are more spread out.
Realtor Danielle Reese says most of her clients these days are city dwellers looking to buy a slice of the suburbs. "They just want some room to spread out. For what you can actually get up here, you're going to be getting a one-, maybe two-bedroom small tiny apartment in the city," she says.
To cash in on the migration to the Hudson Valley, Reese is even offering 35% of her commission to realtors in the city who refer her new clients.
"I want to build relationships with them. I want them to feel comfortable referring their clients to me," she says.
Reese says the hottest listings in Westchester are Chappaqua, parts of Mount Kisco, Scarsdale and Bronxville. She says these areas are attractive because of their access to transportation into Manhattan.
While in person showings are now allowed, realtors must limit the number of people viewing a property. Everyone must also wear face masks and practice social distancing.
Realtors say the biggest problem they are seeing with the market is a lack of new listings, which of course is good news for people looking to sell because they can drive up the price.
