Sometime overnight, dairy cows from the Duryea Farm in Chestnut Ridge went on the lam.
New fences are being installed at the farm, and speculation is that a gate was left open.
No one apparently knew the cows went missing until Ramapo police got a call about cows wandering down Saddle River Road at about 3 a.m. They found the cows near the Ascension Cemetery.
The cows were OK but posed a hazard for drivers, who would not expect to see something like this on a Rockland County road.
A worker from the farm came to retrieve the cows and they are all now safe, back at the farm.
