Potential law changes could end up saving your local tavern thousands every year.
Sen. James Skoufis' latest budget proposal would allow bars to purchase up to 12 bottles of liquor a week from liquor stores.
Currently, even if a bar wants to buy just one bottle, they have to pay fees for delivery on orders smaller than one case.
Newburgh's Golden Rail's owner, Brian Butler, emphasized the impact of these fees, stating, "I would say $150,000 in split-case fees and delivery charges. Probably a conservative estimate, and I'm a very small place."
The law is still being negotiated, but if implemented, it could mean significant savings for bars across the state. This change could save the average bar up to $10,000 annually.
