A proposed cell tower in Yorktown is sparking debate among residents.

The installation, planned for Granite Springs Road, aims to address gaps in cellular coverage identified in a recent Westchester County study. While some residents acknowledge the need for improved service, many are worried about the potential impact on health, wildlife and the environment.

Concerns include the tower’s proximity to homes, possible flooding issues in an area historically prone to high water and disruption to sensitive habitats.

The project is being advanced by Homeland Towers, which selected the site after following legally required steps.

Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman says the proposal is part of an effort to improve connectivity. He emphasizes that reliable service is important for emergency responses.

The proposal is not yet finalized. A town board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m., where residents will have the opportunity to share their opinions.
