Yonkers City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy says she gave it her all and was victorious in her fight for Democratic candidate in her current role.

She has been in it for the last four years.

But this was a crowded battle for the Democratic candidate spot in this primary.

Collins-Bellamy went up against four others. That includes Mike Khader, Chuck Lesnick, Councilwoman Tasha Diaz and Peter Spano.

News 12 got word that Lesnick was recovering from a heart attack he had over the weekend.

He said he went home from the hospital Tuesday and is recuperating.

Collins-Bellamy she says this has been a hard-fought battle.

“Definitely hard work, but I gave it my all and came out victorious. I’m extremely happy," says Collins-Bellamy.

In November, Collins-Bellamy will face off with the Republican candidate. At last check, Dean Politopolous was leading over Ronald Schutte.

There was also a Working Party's Family primary. The unofficial results have Angelique Lopez in the lead.
