The Mount Pleasant Police Department says it received reports of a 13-year-old female breaking car windows on Commerce Street Tuesday evening.
The reports came in at around 6 p.m.
According to the department, the teen caused damage to six cars while walking on the street.
Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi says this is not the first time an incident like this has occurred.
"I would love to see a solution where the facility is benefiting the kids in some way. If they can turn this place around and be a great stepping stone for these kids...their future...I'm behind that. But the way it is right now? It's a facility that probably should be closed down," Supervisor Fulgenzi said.
The minor was charged with six counts of criminal mischief.
During the arrest, police say the teen assaulted a Mount Pleasant police officer and was charged with one count of attempted assault in addition.
In a statement, the JCCA responded saying:
“JCCA cares for children who have lived through challenging circumstances. Safety is JCCA's number one priority for both our youth and the local community. We are aware of the incident and taking all proper and necessary actions as mandated.”
