State and local police packed a Peekskill neighborhood for several hours Monday morning that resulted in a man facing a slew of charges.

It started with a report of an assault in progress around 6 a.m. Monday at a home in the 100 block of Hudson Avenue, according to police.

News 12's Lisa Larocca was live at the scene.

Police say when officers got there, they heard screams for help coming from inside the residence.

When officers went inside the building, they say they encountered a woman suffering from a head injury. Police say when a man saw the officers, he retreated into a second-floor apartment and barricaded himself inside. The victim reported to officers that she had been struck in the head with a brick and feared for her life, police said in a press release.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the man police have identified as Jason Blume was taken into custody without further incident, police said. Blume was arraigned on several charges including assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and unlawful imprisonment in the first degree. He is due back in court on Jan. 20.

The home where this happened is next door to a day care.
