The MTA says the Grand Central Terminal project, anticipated to be completed by the end of next month, may not be ready in time.

The $11 billion project would allow commuters to take a train into Grand Central Terminal from Long Island. Over the years, the project was plagued by delays and cost overruns.

Although the MTA says trains will begin running next month, documents released before a board meeting show there is still some work that won’t be completed until the end of the year.

Gerry Bringmann, of the Long Island Rail Road Commuter Council, has sat in on many meetings about the new Grand Central Madison project. He says he understands the frustration of riders.

“After all this time, you figure you're going to walk in and it’s going to be perfect. It’s not going to be perfect. It will be shortly, but it’s going to be 98% there,” he said.

Bringmann says retail shops may not be ready on day one either. However, some riders are just looking forward to the tracks being open so they can get to the east side of Manhattan faster.

“Doesn't concern me. I want to get from point A to point B. That's what I want to do,” said Anthony Dalessandro of Levittown.

“It’s OK. 80% is better than nothing,” said Harry Abramowicz of Plainview
