A partial building collapse on 60 E. Burnside Ave. is raising questions about why work was still happening on a site ordered to shut down.

According to the Department of Buildings, demolition work was still actively underway at the time of the collapse, despite there being a stop-work order issued on Jan 7.

The DOB says the property owner has since fired the original contractor and hired a new one to handle cleanup and repairs.

The agency also issued multiple violations, including failure to safeguard the public, working against a stop work improperly maintained scaffolding.

The agency also plans to conduct unannounced site visits moving forward.
