NOAA forecasters and the Climate Prediction Center came on Thursday announced their projections for the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
2023’s forecast calls for a near normal season, which officially kicks off next week and runs through the end of November.
El Nino and warm ocean waters are setting the stage. While an El Nino pattern normally suppresses storms, there is concern over just how warm the ocean temperatures are and if they’ll contribute to development or even stronger ones. So, while the number of storms may change this year, there is still a chance that some could rapidly intensify and become major hurricanes.
Now, will they hit land or hit the U.S.? That is yet to be determined by the weather patterns that develop around the storms.
