A New Jersey lawmaker wants to ban the practice of texting on a cellphone while walking.
New Jersey Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt says a national Safety Council report shows that over the course of 10 years, there were more than 1,100 incidents of problems with texting and walking, some of them with injuries.
News 12 took cameras onto the streets of White Plains, and it wasn't long before they found plenty of violators.
If it becomes a law in New Jersey, violators would face the same penalties as jaywalkers, which could include up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail.
