News 12 is taking a closer look at one of the biggest mayoral races in Westchester County – the election in White Plains.
Mayor Tom Roach decided not to seek reelection after more than a decade in office. There are two candidates hoping to replace him.
News 12 senior political reporter Tara Rosenblum caught up with them on the campaign trail.
Democrat Justin Brasch, who is a longtime city councilman, says his record in local government makes him the best person to oversee the development of the city.
Brasch, a self-described moderate Democrat, says he's focused on expanding affordable housing and adding green space. He says if elected mayor, he would create a new intergenerational community center for kids and seniors.
His opponent is Republican Lenny Lolis, who worked for the city for more than two decades before joining the private sector.
Lolis says he decided to run because he believes the city has declined since he left City Hall.
He says his campaign is about restoring pride and transparency at City Hall and insists his message is crossing party lines.
