A City of Newburgh woman was sentenced to nine months in jail after she was caught on nanny cam beating a toddler.
Chantal Mason was sentenced on Wednesday in City of Newburgh Court after previously pleading guilty to reckless assault in the beating of 2-year-old Kyshon Holmes.
The assault was captured on nanny cam last summer and witnessed by the boy’s mother, Kristla Holmes, while she was at work. Mason is seen shoving the boy face down into a couch and slapping him multiple times on the back while saying, “Be quiet. Lay your {expletive} down and go to sleep.”
Mason was facing less jail time or probation only, but the judge imposed a harsher sentence after Mason didn’t follow court orders in February requiring her to check in with probation.
“My heart dropped, and I just started crying,” Holmes said of the sentencing. “It’s over. She’s going to jail. She’s finally going to jail. I thought they were just going to give her a slap on the wrist, but today the judge did what she was supposed to do.”
Holmes and Mason were once friends. The toddler’s mother says since pressing charges, she’s been harassed for months by people close to Mason.
Holmes says her family is now looking forward to happier times ahead. The mother and son were also granted restraining orders prohibiting Mason to contact them for two years.
