A group of new New York state senators took the oath of office Wednesday.
Long Islanders are now represented by newly sworn in senators, Republicans Mario Mattera, Anthony Palumbo and Alexis Weik.
Despite Long Island Democrat losses in November, they still currently hold the majority in the 63-member state Senate.
