Strong waves, downed trees and even a fire. The nor'easter brought it all to New Rochelle.

It was a startling wakeup for William Skelly Monday.

He lives on 5th Avenue in New Rochelle.

"Around 3:10 a.m., banging on the door, it's a police officer and he says there is a fire next door and you have to get out," Skelly tells News 12.

Skelly walked out of his house to something he said he would never expect.

"The tree limb fell down, it hit the power line, and it put the store on fire," Skelly explains.

That store is attached to this home.

Skelly says the flames left behind significant damage inside the shop.

Skelly says the fire didn't spread to the home and no one was hurt.

"They were quick. By the time the police officer got us out, the fire department was here already," says Skelly.

Skelly says a police officer happened to be driving by when the fire started. He is thankful the officer alerted them so quickly.

The storm also left damage in other parts of New Rochelle and brought some powerful waves to the sound.

"During the night, the lines parted and it drifted all the way down from Rye and landed on the beach in Glen Island," says New Rochelle Harbor Master Capt. Salvatore Gugliara.

A boat ended up on some rocks in New Rochelle after its lines parted up in Rye.

There is damage to the bottom of the boat, and it ended up being towed away.

Officials say there have been no reports of any serious injuries.
