School districts across the country have been dealing with a rash of vandalism because of a viral TikTok trend.

The social media trend has been dubbed “devious licks.” Videos posted on TikTok show students stealing items from school bathrooms like soap dispensers and hand dryers.

The superintendent of Egg Harbor township says that the district has also experienced this vandalism.

In a letter to parents, the superintendent said, "The high school and one of our middle schools just recently fell victim to this disrespectful behavior which will cause bathrooms to be closed until repaired. I will stress that this behavior will not be tolerated and warrants suspension, arrest, and restitution for damages."

The district is asking anyone who may have information about the vandalism to speak up.

In nearby Egg Harbor City, the principal of the Community School sent a letter home to parents addressing the trend.

"I need your assistance in collaborating with me to talk to your children about the dangers of these challenges and be smart by not participating in them. Please let them know the seriousness of these actions and stay away from these ridiculous challenges,” the letter stated.

It's unclear if any damage has been done at the Egg Harbor City Community School. But the principal says he is now challenging students to perform random acts of kindness and put those on TikTok instead.
