Bedford’s town supervisor and the chief of staff to Assemblyman David Buchwald have joined the race for an opening state Assembly seat in 2020.

"Having successes working with every level of government, I think I can do the job very well for all of the municipalities in the 93rd Assembly District," says Bedford Town Supervisor Chris Burdick.

Buchwald currently represents the 93 Assembly District, but he’s running to replace Rep. Nita Lowey in the 17 Congressional District seat.

Burdick’s campaign consists of fixing climate change, putting an end to gun violence and increasing women’s reproductive rights. A number of state and local lawmakers, including state Sen. Pete Harckham, Mount Kisco Mayor Gina Picinich and the town supervisors of Lewisboro and Pound Ridge, support him.

"Experience makes a difference, you know, Chris is a seasoned, experienced public servant with a record of accomplishments that we can all be proud of,” says Harckham of the 40 District.

Buchwald’s chief of staff, Alex Roithmayr, also announced his candidacy. His platform includes reducing student debt, protecting the environment and bringing back ethics to Albany.

"The balance between going up to Albany and fighting for ideals but also coming back and filling the potholes and making sure you are there for your constituents," says Roithmayr.

The two candidates join four other Democrats in the race for the 93 Assembly District: attorney Jeremiah Frei Pearson, activist Richard Payne, Greater New York Chamber of Commerce President Mark Jaffe and attorney Kristen Browde.
