A Westlake High School teacher was the topic of conversation at a Board of Education meeting Wednesday night in Mount Pleasant.
One of the topics addressed at the meeting was an assignment that Mount Pleasant Schools say should have never been used in a classroom.
History students received a handout last week of a cartoon that showed a white man kneeling on a Black man's neck - progressing from a slave owner to Ku Klux Klan member to a police officer.
The superintendent says he appreciates assignments that exercise critical thinking skills, but went on to say that this one crossed the line.
The teacher released a statement, saying, "I understand that some community members were angered by this cartoon, as I recognize that it can be seen as disrespectful to law enforcement. I apologize for this. That was absolutely not its intent."
The superintendent says the teacher will be discussing this with the class.
