2ds agoA Montclair man is facing additional criminal charges after being accused in a string of sexual assault cases in northern New Jersey.
The latest charges stem from an alleged sexual assault at a hotel in Secaucus. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office says that Fokam Parfait, 25, sexually assaulted a person inside the hotel on Sept. 10. Parfait and the victim met through a dating app, according to the prosecutor.
The prosecutor says that Parfait assaulted the 28-year-old victim, causing injuries to the head and face. The victim also was not allowed to leave the room, according to officials, leading to kidnapping charges.
News 12 New Jersey spoke to Parfait’s mother, Kense Pangrace, in Montclair. She said that he denies any wrongdoing. Pangrace said that her son came to New Jersey from Cameroon when he was 4 years old - growing up in Montclair and attending high school there.
“My son grew up in the U.S. But he had a problem when he was little. He’s difficult all the time,” Pangrace said.
After these latest charges, police didn’t have to go far to find Parfait and make the arrest. He was already in the Bergen County Jail, accused of other sex crimes.
Police say he’s connected to at least three assaults in Saddle Brook in March. In those cases, he was charged with aggravated sexual assault, weapons possession and kidnapping.
News 12 is told that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is now involved in the case. They are looking into Parfait’s legal status. There’s a possibility he could be deported back to Cameroon, according to officials.
