Monsters and puppets bring quirky art shop to life in Park Slope

Run by artist Serene Bacigalupi, the space is filled with colorful monsters, handmade gifts, and throwback references to the ‘80s and ‘90s.
“I hope people really feel transported,” Bacigalupi said. “I hope when you walk through the door, you feel like you've all of a sudden walked into this, like, monster universe.”
The shop is an extension of Bacigalupi’s puppet company, which she created after her monster paintings evolved into larger-than-life puppets, which are on display all over the store.
“I think it's just a little bit of levity and just a little bit of silliness,” she said. “I want to give adults permission to use their imagination and laugh and find something kind of silly.”
The store helps fund that creative work while giving locals and visitors a place to buy and interact with quickly art made by local and international artists.
“We kind of like to think of ourselves as a toy store for grown-ups.”
