The Mineola School District superintendent is off the job.

Michael Nagler has been suspended without pay following an investigation into his ties to a grading program.

The program called 'Build Your Own Grade' is part of a company founded by Nagler and his son.

It was implemented at the beginning of this school year and was then suspended in October, following outrage from parents.

The district hired a law firm to investigate and they interviewed sixteen people.

Lawyers said Nagler originally told the board he applied for an LLC for the technology to protect his intellectual property.

"Dr. Nagler changed his reason for needing the LLC to needing it in order for him to receive a write off on his taxes,” according to attorney Nathaniel Nichols.

It was determined that the administrator violated the Board’s code of ethics and his contract.

Nagler will be suspended without pay until its next meeting on Jan. 22.

Deputy Superintendent Catherine Fishman will oversee operations until then.
