Katelyn Evans prefers to spend her days singing on stage. Instead, she has spent time in the Vaccine Research Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, not because she is sick, but because she is sick and tired of what COVID-19 has been doing to everyone's lives.

The 16-year-old is one of the few thousand teenagers worldwide who volunteered to be part of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine trial.

Her whole family stepped forward, but Katelyn was the only one chosen. So why did her mother sign off on her daughter getting involved?

"We believe the scientists and there are always risks, her driving is a risk. Everyone leaving the house is a risk. So we took what we thought was a very small chance to get big dividends," said Laurie Evans.

Katelyn has some advice for people afraid of getting the vaccine.

"I just say listen to the experts. There's people out there saying it's not safe, it's a hoax, but I'd listen to the scientists - not your neighbor - and make things stable so it can get back to normal soon," said Katelyn.

Because Katelyn was part of this trial, she doesn't know if she got the vaccine or the placebo. She will likely find out when the vaccine is available for her - likely the spring or early summer. She will be monitored for the next two years for any health issues.
