The Chappaqua Library is preparing for an upcoming book signing with Chelsea Clinton, but it's last year's book-signing appearance with her mother that is claiming the spotlight.
News 12 covered the event in June of 2014 as thousands lined up to greet Hillary Clinton and get copies of her book, "Hard Choices."
Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Republican National Committee requested all information on Clinton's appearance, including records, bills and any employee overtime pay.
News 12 spoke with the library's Director Pamela Thornton via FaceTime, who said the library used all volunteers and not a dime of taxpayer money.
Thornton says the library receives Freedom of Information requests frequently, but Clinton's case is undeniably different because it was not a local request but from an entity in Washington, DC.
News 12 spoke with residents in Chappaqua, some of whom called the RNC's move "much ado about nothing." Some charged Republicans with grasping at straws to discredit Clinton, currently the Democratic presidential frontrunner.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says the situation highlights the "destructive nature of politics."
