The operators of Indian Point took out full-page ads in six Hudson Valley newspapers this week in an effort to alleviate concerns after a recent leak.
Radioactive tritium-contaminated water leaked into the groundwater during maintenance on a filtration system at three of the monitoring wells.
The advertisement assured the public that the small leak was contained to plant property and poses no threat to the public or the environment.
The latest problem comes as Entergy tries to extend the plant's operating license for another 20 years.
"We thought it was important that people know what happened and really know the effects from what happened, which from a public health perspective are zero," said Jerry Nappy, of Entergy.
Entergy said another goal of the ad was to alleviate any concern in the community that the leak affected drinking water.
While some residents said they found the ad reassuring, others have their doubts.
"I would like to see more investigations going on. It just feels like another cover-up," said Dorothy Venduye.
A full report on the leak from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected next month.
