A Hudson Valley teen is being recognized in the nation's capital.
Valerie Weisler, of New City, is currently on her way to Washington, D.C. to talk with leaders about "The Validation Project."
Weisler says she was bullied for being shy, and decided two years ago to create the international organization that is committed to uniting teens to use their talents to better their communities.
"I wanted to create a platform that would let teens who had struggles be able to come to a community where they were whole heartedly accepted," she says.
In addition to working with over 6,000 teens worldwide, the 17-year-old is an ambassador to the United Nations.
While in D.C., she will speak with White House and State Department youth supervisors.
Her focus is finding ways to help teens speak up and get involved in government.
