288ds agoHoboken's Memorial Day Parade returned on Wednesday after a two-years hiatus due to COVID-19.
The parade, which many in attendance pointed as another sign of normalcy as we continue to deal with COVID-19, saw Hoboken residents lined Washington Street for the festivities.
“Little by little we'll get back into shape,” Grand Marshal Charles Schulz told News 12. “Whatever normal is, we'll get back to normal.”
This year marks 122 years of this parade that honors the fallen men and women of the armed forces. COVID-19 put a halt on the parade the last two years.
“I'm seeing people I haven't seen in years,” said Hoboken resident Marietta Chaneski. “Especially with COVID, nobody came out. Now everybody's coming out, it's great.”
The celebration in Hoboken comes just a day after another mass shooting in our country. Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla told News 12 about safety precautions the city is taking after the tragedies in Texas and in Buffalo.
Bhalla said no extra security measures were needed for the parade, but they have beefed up security near schools. Washington Street will also be closed again from 4-7 p.m. Friday for a rally for reproductive rights.
