The elderly Harrison couple that was brutally beaten and robbed during a home invasion last September was happy to learn that their alleged assailants were arrested Thursday.
Following a four-month investigation that spanned the country, police took into custody the two suspected masterminds of the burglary and four ?muscle? men. The four ?muscle men? are accused of following Frieda and William Schwartz from their jewelry store in the Bronx to their Harrison home and attacking them.
Frieda, 73, and William Schwartz, 75, are still recovering from the assault that left them physically and emotionally scarred. The robbers smashed William Schwartz's head into the floor and kicked his chest a month after he had open heart surgery.
?When someone comes, I'm scared,? Frieda Schwartz says. ?I don't want to open the door.?
The perpetrators took off with jewelry, cash and the couple?s Mercedes Benz.
?I don't know altogether why they would jump on us, beat us so hard without talking to us,? William Schwartz says.
According to investigators, the ring leaders responsible for planning the Harrison home invasion are Gary Pilavdjian, 38, and John Mandracchia, 43, both of New Rochelle.
The Schwartzes say Pilavdjian was their contractor for nearly two years, and they trusted him enough to leave him alone inside their house.
Police say the suspects may have been responsible for at least two other home invasions in Westchester. All six men have been charged with burglary. They could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
