The Town of Poughkeepsie says a harmful algae bloom is impacting the water from the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge down to the West Point area.
The town says it is unknown how long the condition will last.
The algae can produce toxins that pose health risks to people, pets and wildlife.
The most common symptoms include skin rashes or an upset stomach. However, a large exposure to high concentrations can damage the liver or neurological system.
They urge you and your pets stay away as it can be fatal to dogs that swim in affected waters.
