The Greenburgh Town Board will soon be introducing legislation to prohibit shooting ranges near homes and schools.

Greenburgh has been home to the Westchester County Police Revolver and Rifle League's outdoor range since the 1940s. Last month, a woman in a new subdivision next door claimed she was hit in the leg by metal from a spent bullet from the range. Lawmakers are now considering shutting the range down.

The new legislation would prohibit shooting ranges within a quarter-mile of homes and schools. Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says he will formally introduce the legislation next week.

Those against the legislation question how the woman could have been hit by a bullet since the subdivision is on the other side of a hill. Greenburgh police have not officially determined if the woman was hit by bullet fire from the range and forensic tests are not yet finished.
