A former Village of Chester code enforcement officer and volunteer Orange County fire investigator is now behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing child sex abuse material.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office says John Orr was sentenced Dec. 8 to six months in jail and 10 years of probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
State police arrested Orr last year following an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. Authorities say investigators found an image showing a child under the age of 16 being sexually abused.
At the time of his arrest, Orr worked as a code enforcement officer for the Village of Chester and also served as a volunteer fire investigator with Orange County.
Orange County officials tell News 12 the charges were unrelated to Orr’s fire service duties. They say he was immediately suspended and later terminated following an internal review.
News 12 reached out to Village of Chester officials for comment on the sentencing but did not receive a response.
