An auto repair shop in Franklin Township, Somerset County, was damaged in an overnight fire just hours after a new owner took over.
The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at the shop located at 2045 Route 27, near the border of Franklin Township and North Brunswick, behind a shopping plaza.
The owner told News 12 he had just taken over the business the day before and left the shop around 9 p.m. after cleaning. He was woken up hours later to learn about the fire.
No one was inside the business at the time and no injuries were reported.
Investigators, police, and firefighters were seen at the scene around 5 a.m., using flashlights to inspect the damage.
Most of the visible damage appears to be in the back of the building, where car parts are stored. All three garage bays and windows are open, but damage from the outside looks minimal.
There is currently no power to the building, so officials have not been able to review security camera footage.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
