A Valley Stream man accused in a violent robbery at a Franklin Square convenience store is facing multiple charges, according to police.
Investigators say 20-year-old Benjamin Mendoza-Colato entered the 7-Eleven on Franklin Avenue on Wednesday and placed three White Claw cans in his pockets.
An employee who witnessed the act told him she was calling 911 as he went to leave. Police say he proceeded to grab the phone and fight the worker.
A male employee intervened to help his coworker. The altercation continued as Mendoza-Colato eventually forced his way out of the store and into the parking lot.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, according to authorities. The male worker was treated by an ambulance at the scene.
Mendoza-Colato remained at large until his arrest on Sunday morning. Police say he is charged with robbery and criminal mischief.
