Feds offer reward for information about damaged piping plover nest, missing eggs

Federal authorities are asking for the public’s help to track down those responsible for destroying several nests of a protected bird species on Long Island beaches.
Piping plover nests and protective barriers were destroyed at Robert Moses State Park in May.
The nests were destroyed again at Jones Beach in June.
Meanwhile, a few days later, plover eggs were taken from a nest near Shinnecock East County Park. Unleashed dogs were also seen in the area.
Officials say taking a single plover egg could result in a fine of up to $25,000 and six months in jail.
There is now a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to whomever did this.
Anyone with information is asked to call Special Agent Kathryn McCabe at 516-825-3950, or 1-844-FWS-TIPS.
