A family in Puerto Rico with ties to the Hudson Valley is speaking out about the blackout on the island.
The blackout started on Wednesday and left millions without electricity. Officials are hoping to have power back on within 48 to 72 hours after the outage. There’s no word yet on what caused the blackout.
Raymond Rassi lives in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and has family in Yonkers.
He says although he has solar power, some of his neighbors are still without power. He also says he's worried about elderly people who need electricity for medical devices.
He described to News 12 in more detail what he’s seeing, including businesses closed and long lines at gas stations for generator fuel. “Everybody else has to rush over to the gas stations, which by the way, have lines of cars that are 100 cars, 150 cars waiting because everybody needs gas for their generators," says Rassi. “They’re having to cook in somebody else’s house or they having to buy a gas stove or something like that or even people even end up making a little fire in their backyard to be able to cook."
