Fairfield officials were forced to close Penfield and Jennings beaches after multiple people reported being bitten or pinched by crabs.
The health department says it seems a large hatching of baby crabs has made its way to the surface and they are apparently already learning to use their claws.
No serious injuries have been reported and officials say swimmers will get the green light once the tide takes the crabs back out.
