Crews from the Hudson Valley arrived in Buffalo to help the city recover after a winter storm killed more than 30 people.

Eight Dutchess County Public Works highway crew members just arrived there Tuesday night with some of their trucks and gear.

They'll help Erie County crews cut paths through unplowed streets so utility crews and first responders can get in.

Commissioner of Public Works Bob Balkind says people in Dutchess have lived similar experiences on a much smaller scale.

"We know what it looks like when our residents are suffering and they need help, so we have a lot of empathy for the folks out in Erie County and, like I said, we happen to be in a position to be able to help because we're not getting that weather,” he says.

The Dutchess team will be in Buffalo through the end of the week and will return Saturday.

The Medical examiner and coroner staff have also been overwhelmed so Dutchess is coordinating help there too.
