News 12 was closely following several local primary elections on Primary Day.
There were dozens of races across the Hudson Valley, including in Yonkers, where there were three Democrats running for City Council president - incumbent Mike Khader and challengers Lakisha Collins-Bellamy and Peter Spano.
Several ethics and workplace investigations into Khader have opened the door for the other two to take his spot in recent weeks.
In Mount Vernon, there were a trio of Democrats running for city comptroller after Deborah Reynolds decided not to run for a second term. The candidates included City Council President Marcus Griffith, community activist Derickson Lawrence and Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard's chief of staff Reverend Darren Morton. Eight others were seeking seats on the City Council.
In Greenburgh, 30-year incumbent Town Supervisor Paul Feiner was looking for his 16th term while facing off against political newcomer Tasha Young, who was trying to be the town's first Black and female town supervisor. Feiner hasn't faced a primary since 2013.
The only Westchester County-wide race was the Democratic primary for county clerk. Incumbent Timothy Idoni was looking to win his fifth four-year term and was challenged surprisingly by Yonkers City Councilwoman Shanae Williams. This was Idoni's second primary since becoming a clerk, and if he wins, he'll become the third-longest tenured clerk in county history.
There was also a very crowded field for the mayor of Spring Valley. There were five Democrats and two Working Families running, including incumbent Alan Simon, former mayors Noramie Jasmin, and Demeza Delhomme, plus Village Trustee Eudson Tyson Francois and East Ramapo School Board Vice President Sabrina Charles-Pierre.
Voter turnout is expected to be low this year - around 10% to 20%, according to County Board of Election Commissioners.
