A Crawford Town councilman and Pine Bush gun shop owner is facing criminal charges for allegedly violating a family court restraining order twice in just over a month.

Crawford police say Jason Muehr was arrested on Monday for criminal contempt in the second degree. He was previously arrested in November for a similar, separate alleged offense. Both cases remain active in court. Muehr was released on his own recognizance after each arraignment.

Muehr owns Smoke Wagon Firearms on Main Street in Pine Bush. He now confirms that more than 500 firearms were removed from his business and home. He says the guns were taken under a court order connected to the restraining order. Muehr says some of the weapons belong to customers and claims many of them are upset as they wait for clarification on where the firearms are being held.

News 12 began making inquiries on this case in November after initial tips about activity at the gun shop. It’s not clear if the business remains open.

Muehr provided a written statement to News 12 disputing the allegations. He says the order does not involve physical violence, claims the arrests stemmed from texting his wife after being served and from delivering food to the home. He adds that he intends to challenge both cases in court.

Crawford Town Supervisor Michael Menendez declined to comment, calling the matter personal.

He is scheduled to return to court next month.
