Another confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Hudson Valley schools - this time in the city of Middletown.

District Superintendent Richard Delmoro says a staffer at Carter Elementary School tested positive for coronavirus last Monday and is now in quarantine.

The district is currently on a full virtual schedule, so no children are in the buildings, but teachers and some other staff are.

District officials say this is an isolated case so far and that schools are sanitized daily.

Middletown students are scheduled to return on a hybrid schedule starting Oct. 5 - something the superintendent said by statement remains unchanged. He added that "safety and health are paramount so we have to respond accordingly. Ultimately, our metrics will determine whether we can sustain hybrid learning and parents are reminded we may need to revert back to virtual learning at any time."

Superintendent Delmoro says the district has hired extra cleaners to disinfect buildings throughout the day.

He says contact tracing has been performed, and anyone who may have come in contact with that sick staff member has been notified.
