COVID-19 cases in Westchester are up tenfold from where they were at the end of June, when cases were at a low.
Westchester County officials say there are now 1,800 active COVID-19 cases. A few weeks ago, there were only 175 active cases.
The number of people in local hospitals is also up, and most of them are unvaccinated, according to the county's Health Commissioner, Dr. Sherlita Amler.
A total of 81% of adults in Westchester have received at least one vaccine dose -- the highest in the Hudson Valley -- but concerns for the unvaccinated remain.
"The more people that are hospitalized, seriously sick with COVID, the more likely there are people who are within the possibility of losing their life to COVID. Ultimately, these are the things that we can care most about," said Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
Westchester County officials are meeting with school leaders Tuesday to talk about safely returning students to classrooms and setting up satellite COVID-19 vaccination clinics at any district that wants them for students and school staff.
