State police say they'll be stepping up enforcement this holiday weekend as millions of people hit the road for Thanksgiving.
AAA says nearly 5 million people will be traveling by plane and car to their Thanksgiving destinations this year, which is about 98% of pre-pandemic levels. AAA says holiday travel is official back.
The extra volume didn't make things any easier during rush hour Monday on I-95, early in the Thanksgiving week.
Some travelers News 12 spoke with Monday say they took their trips a few days ahead of Thanksgiving to beat the rush.
"A lot of people probably got themselves to where they were going over the weekend or maybe last week. So, I don't know, we rolled the dice and we're in traffic now. So, what are we going to do?" said one traveler.
Travelers can expect an increased police presence at Bradley International Airport and on the roads this week.
