Child accidentally opens rear door and falls from bus in Monsey

The child fell onto the road, but the car behind the bus stopped and did not hit him, according to Ramapo police.

A child was hospitalized after falling from a moving school bus in Monsey on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they responded to a call around 5 p.m. 70 Main St. for an unconscious person and learned the boy accidentally activated the rear-door release while the bus was driving.

The child fell onto the road, but the car behind the bus stopped and did not hit him, according to Ramapo police.

Police tell News 12 the child was 7 years old.

He was taken to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition with a head injury, according to police.

As of Thursday evening, officers said they believe the boy is now stable.
