A Bronx mother has been indicted on murder and manslaughter charges in the deaths of her 5-year-old twins last December.

Gloria Asamoah, 42, has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and first- and second-degree manslaughter for allegedly killing the twins. She was hospitalized after the children were found dead and was home when the children were found unresponsive.

The boy and girl, 5-year-old twins George and Gianna Kantanka, were found dead inside of an apartment at 240 East 175th St.

The Bronx District Attorney's Office says that the defendant initially blamed illness as the cause of death for her kids.

The medical examiner ruled their deaths as homicide by smothering. Police say the father of the twins cooperated with law enforcement and that he is not facing charges.

Authorities say the family did not have a previous history of domestic violence and that the parents did not have any prior run-ins with the Administration for Children’s Services.

Asamoah is due back in court on July 17.
