Vigil remembers White Plains man fatally shot in 1996 by off-duty NYPD officer
A vigil was held Sunday to remember a White Plains man who was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer during an argument over a parking space in Dobbs Ferry 25 years ago.
Charles Campell, 37, was killed on Oct. 3, 1996 – but for his loved ones, the tragedy feels like it just happened yesterday.
"I just came from the cemetery,” said his cousin Michael Lynch. β€œFor me, it's always going to be a painful day, but on his birthday I celebrate with him.”
Campbell was shot three times by former NYPD officer Richard DiGuglielmo, who claimed he was defending his father from a bat-wielding Campbell.
DiGuglielmo was released after serving nearly 20 years in prison.
