Dozens gathered Thursday in Peekskill to help spearhead a movement to get a little-known World War II hero the recognition they believe he deserves.
His name is Dorie Miller, and he was a cook on a naval ship attacked in Pearl Harbor during WWII.
Miller is credited with not only saving fellow sailors' lives, but also manning a machine gun and helping fight off the Japanese Air Force.
His supporters are calling for Miller to receive the Medal of Honor for his heroism.
The fight for Dorie Miller was started more than three decades ago by former Rep. Joe DioGuardi - and all of these years later, he's still advocating on his behalf.
